Since the start of the LCK Summer Split, Gen.G has been on an unbeaten streak, challenging T1’s record for consecutive match and set wins. All eyes are on whether Gen.G can set new records during Week 5 of the “2024 LCK Summer,” held from July 17th to 21st at the LCK Arena in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Currently on a 22-match and 18-set winning streak, Gen.G is poised to break the record for consecutive set wins first. In the Spring Finals, Gen.G was trailing 1-2 against T1 but won the 4th and 5th sets to clinch the championship. Since then, they have won 16 consecutive sets in the Summer regular season, adding to their streak.
If Gen.G wins 2-0 against Nongshim RedForce on July 18th, they will surpass the LCK record of 19 consecutive set wins set by SK Telecom T1 in 2013.
Gen.G is also targeting the record for consecutive match wins. Since their 0-2 loss to KT Rolster in Week 4 of the Spring Split on February 14th, Gen.G has remained unbeaten in the LCK. They went on an 11-match winning streak in the Spring regular season, defeated Dplus KIA 3-2 and Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 in the playoffs, and triumphed over T1 3-2 in the finals, adding three more wins. Continuing their momentum, Gen.G has won all eight matches in the first four weeks of the Summer Split, bringing their total to an astounding 22 consecutive wins in the LCK.
The longest winning streak in this category was achieved by T1 in 2022. T1 finished the Spring regular season with an 18-0 record and added two more wins in the playoffs and finals. They then won four consecutive matches at the start of the Summer Split, setting a record of 24 consecutive wins.
If Gen.G wins their matches against Nongshim RedForce and Dplus KIA in Week 5 of the Summer Split, they will tie T1’s 2022 record of 24 consecutive wins.
July 20th is expected to be a pivotal day in the “2024 LCK Summer” as several top-ranked teams face off. After the “Saturday Showdown” between T1 and Hanwha Life Esports, the first-place Gen.G will clash with the third-place Dplus KIA.
The match between T1 and Hanwha Life Esports has a revenge element. After competing in the Esports World Cup (EWC) and returning to the LCK, T1 narrowly lost to Hanwha Life Esports in their second match of Week 4 due to a lack of finishing power. T1 needs to avenge this loss to secure a better position for the playoffs.
The Gen.G versus Dplus KIA match is also highly anticipated. In their first-round match on July 13th, Dplus KIA had a 10-2 kill score lead in the second set but was dramatically turned around by Gen.G’s mid laner “Chovy” Ji-hoon Jeong’s Azir play. All eyes are on how Dplus KIA will perform, especially after missing a golden opportunity to break Gen.G’s consecutive set win streak.
